My first Zentangle Pattern

Standard

“The Zentangle Method is an easy-to-learn, relaxing, and fun way to create beautiful images by drawing structured patterns.

Almost anyone can use it to create beautiful images. It increases focus and creativity, provides artistic satisfaction along with an increased sense of personal well being. The Zentangle Method is enjoyed all over this world across a wide range of skills, interests and ages.

We believe that life is an art form and that our Zentangle Method is an elegant metaphor for deliberate artistry in life.” – zentangle.com

Last year I traveled to Providence, Rhode Island (took my girls with me) and became one of the 2100 “Certified Zentangle Instructors” across the world (class #21).  My main motivation for doing this is that I enjoy teaching this art form and it was (in my opinion) the ethical thing to do if I wanted to call what I was doing “Zentangle”

Over the past year I’ve enjoyed being part of this teaching community and love to see all the patterns that other CZT’s develop and share.  I tried my hand at it this summer when I was unplugged for a bit of time on a family vacation.  Here is what I came up with.

Here it is on the side of my Hydroflask.  As the name suggests…the pattern was inspired by the pattern on the Kirkland brand paper towels…just goes to prove, inspiration is everywhere!  Hope you give the pattern a try and join me in the studio for a Zentangle Workshop soon!  Click here to sign up for the next session.

Summer Art Camps – Not just for kids!

Summer Art Camps – Not just for kids!

June, July and August around the studio mean the days are filled with classes (“camps”).  Each week we have at least 3 “camps” going on.  A “camp” is a 4 day grouping of classes that fall into a category such as Jewelry, Mixed-Media, Zentangle, Watercolor, Art Journaling and the like.  There are 3 time slots we offer (10-12, 1-3 & 3:30-5:30) each day.

Next week we are offering Photography (10am-12pm)

st_campphotography

Art Journaling (1pm-3pm)

camp_artjournaling101

and Jewelry Making (3:30pm-5:30pm)

If you are on our mailing list or follow us on Facebook you have seen the special deal we’ve been offering our subscribers.  ($99 instead of $150)  If you are interested in purchasing up to 4 weeks at this rate, click here.  You will need to use the drop down box to select the number of weeks you wish to purchase.  After your purchase you will click here to go to the camp calendar and RSVP for your selected weeks.  Simple!

This deal was supposed to be good through today but I’ll extend it through Friday, June 3rd for those of you who read the blog.

Our minimum age for camp is 8 (in most cases, 10 or 12 in some cases) but there is no maximum age!  We invite adults to attend any camp session.  As a matter of fact, we welcome it.

**Side Note** Because most camps are made up of 4 individual classes, if you are not available for 4 consecutive days, you can pick and choose classes throughout the summer to get a taste here and there. Click here to sign up for individual classes. (Note, the discount above is only for 4 consecutive days in the same time slot)

I hope to see lots of you in the studio this summer.  Bring your friends, enjoy the air conditioning and make something!  Because I’m NOT running a “groupon” type of deal this summer the crowds will be light and the atmosphere will be relaxed.

Here is a link to our entire summer program grouped by camp.

All camps take place at A Work of Heart Studio, 2196 Lincoln Avenue, San Jose, 95125

Endless Summer “Camp” Series

Standard

Most of you probably think “kids” when you hear the phrase “summer art camp.”  Well, at A Work of Heart you will always find a mixture of adults and kids during the day from the first week of June through the 2nd week in August.  I continually tried to keep everyone informed that “camp isn’t just for kids” and it worked…to some extent.  All of our “camps” were actually 4 individual classes strung together to give a comprehensive experience on a given topic such as Art Journaling, Mixed Media Portraits, Jewelry Making, Zentangle Art, Hand Lettering, Printmaking and Mixed Media Art.

As you look at the calendar for September notice how there are seemingly related classes falling a 4 week series in a specific time slot.  Each class is just fine as a stand alone class but will fit nicely with the others to give you a more in-depth experience.

Here is the lineup:

Tuesdays 10am-12pm – Art Journaling
Tuesdays 1pm-3pm – Printmaking
Tuesdays 3:30-5:30 – Mixed Media Art
Wednesdays 10am-12pm – Hand Lettering
Wednesdays 1pm-3pm – Mixed Media Portraits
Wednesdays 3:30-5:30 – Art Journaling

Thursdays 10am-12pm – Zentangle Art
Thursdays 3:30-5:30 – Jewelry Making

Jewelry Making

Art Journaling

Mixed Media Art

Artful Hand Lettering

Printmaking

Mixed Media Portraits

Zentangle Art

Here is your chance to get a great deal on 4 classes.  Normally this would $140 plus supplies but I’m extending my “summer camp deal” of $99.  Click here to purchase up to 4 sessions at this price.  That is 16 classes!!
