Art Melange – a Travel Journal Extravaganza

Make one for yourself in the series coming on Thursday nights in June:

Art Melange – a Travel Journal Extravaganza
Thursdays June 2- June 30 PLUS a bonus Craft Rave on Saturday June 11, 6pm-11pm ($140 until May 31…then the price goes up to $165)

15 hours of studio time and instruction.  All supplies included.  Minimal/No sewing experience required.

This is a great project for using up all your scrap papers and hand painted papers from previous classes if you want to use them.

This workshop will feature techniques inspired by Teesha Moore, Traci Bautista and Mary Ann Moss.  I am a huge fan of these extraordinary artists and have woven techniques each of them use in their journals into this one workshop.  We will mix and match to create a one-of-a-kind journal ready to accompany you anywhere you go.  The zippered pencil pouch/flap is a bonus so you have your favorite writing tools/glue/paint brush at the ready.

yesterday, today and tomorrow..

Whew! Yesterday was a total blast with painty hands and painting friends.

The make-and-take was AWESOME…I was so busy I didn’t get any photos taken in the process…here is the aftermath…

We made hand stained papers (inspired by traci bautista’s methods) and folded them into a mini book (as seen in the foreground of this picture) The bonus was everyone left with some dyed paper towels to use in other art as well.

and of course Traci was here painting and hanging out. It is so cool watching her creative process. Darci dove in and painted along with Traci…darci

And here are some of the works in progress from Traci.

So I come in to the studio today and the energy is still buzzing with all the creativity from the past few days…do you think I could sit down at the computer and do anything that “needed” to be done? No, of course not…I gave myself permission to create…I prepared some samples for Thursday night’s class. We are working out of Laurie Mika’s book Mixed Media Mosaics and doing Image transfer Pendants and tiles. Here are some samples I made today…love love love them if I do say so myself…can’t wait to paint on them and add a glaze. I just discovered a product called fluxe…you end up with a resin like finish. It melts in the oven…very easy to use.

The piece in the foreground has this fluxe on it though it is hard to see. All of these are color image transfers onto white polymer clay. Too much fun! Can’t wait to incorporate them into a mosaic.

Ok, so maybe that wasn’t yesterday, today and TOMORROW..but yesterday, today and THURSDAY.

And as an added bonus…Linda Lubovich, friend of the studio and one of the new teachers, came in yesterday and taught a private class to Hannah because she can’t make it to the purse class on Sunday. Here are a couple of shots. It was heartwarming watching them work together and the result was d-a-r-l-i-n-g!! (there are still a few spaces left in Sunday’s class…click here to register)

January & February Book Clubs (yes, two of them)

I’m excited to start our new format for the  Tuesday and Thursday 6:30-8pm time slot.
Book Club!  We’ll be doing more than just reading these inspirational art filled books.  We’ll be practicing the techniques we find on the pages.

Tuesday night will focus on the book:  Metal Effects by Cheryl Darrow

Metal EffectsLearn to work with art metal (40 gauge aluminum or copper)  using tools and texture plates.

Make extraordinary pieces for decorating your life.  Metal is easy to work with yielding beautiful results with a minimal amount of effort.  Weekly we will practice different techniques from the book and look forward to a visit from Cheryl herself at the end of January.  Cheryl is teaching here in our studio on Friday, January 30 and Saturday, January 31 2009.  She will offer 3 classes 2 times each over these two days.  It will be the special privilege of book club members to spend some private time with Cheryl during her stay.

Each book club session will be $15 and includes metal for a make-and-take project.  Click here to register for any or all of the sessions.

Thursday night will focus on the book:  Collage Unleashed by Traci Bautista

collageunleashed1Having Traci here in the studio in November inspired this whole book club thing into existance.  The book Collage Unleashed is full of techniques that have added  new dimension to my personal art.  I know those who attended Traci’s workshops feel the same.  There is something so freeing in her style.  We, as a group, will continue to explore and experiment with the techniques she shares in her book.  There is also an online yahoo group already set up for people who love the style   http://groups.yahoo.com/group/collageUNLEASHED/

Each session will be $15 with an optional supplies fee of $10 (bring your own paper and paints to have the supplies fee waived)  Click here to register for any or all of the January and February sessions.

Register now, space is limited to 10  memebers in each club.

collage Unleashed Book Club

I was so inspired by having Traci Bautista in the studio last weekend it has inspired me to see if anyone was interested in joining a book club. I want to devote 6 weeks to going through Collage Unleashed. Starting in January….what day of the week? How about Thursday? I’m open to suggestions.

Here are some of the backgrounds I’ve been playing with since last weekend….I took some of the techniques and adapted them using a single color. I LOVE the dyed paper towel printing!

I learned so much and am totally inspired. It has been a long time since something has resonated so strongly.
