Julie Balzer’s November Visit

Julie Balzer is returning to A Work of Heart Studio in November.

Dates you won’t want to miss

I’m delighted with the way our 2014 calendar is starting to fill up!

First off.  There are a few spots left in the Julie Fei-Fan Balzer workshops January 4 (Stamp Carving) and January 5 (Altered Book)

This has been a long anticipated weekend since I booked Julie more than 9 months ago!  You WILL want to register early (as in right this minute) because we will not allow more than 22 students in class so that everyone has space and quality time with Julie.

Next.  I’m OVER THE MOON excited to have Stephanie Ackerman teaching in March!

She will be offering 3 workshops :

Saturday, March 1 (630-930pm) 52 Card Pick [me] Up

Sunday, March 2 (9am-12pm) Art for Art (part 1)

and Part 2 (you can take either OR BOTH)

Sunday, March 2 (1-4pm) Art from Art (part 2)

Then on  April 27th we are hosting Roxanne Stout Evans for a Mixed-Media Collage workshop.  Stay tuned for photos, but if you know Roxanne’s work and would like to register for her class.  Click here

Oh I do love stencils!  Check out Julie’s latest release.  I’m going to order some of them for the shop but want you to weigh in on your favorites….reply to this blog post and will draw random name to receive one of these stencils absolutely free when they come in!

Speaking of Julie…we have booked her for Sunday, January 5, 2014….(save the date) and want you to weigh in on which class she will offer.

1. Faces

  • If  you’ve ever been intimidated by drawing faces, come and play during this face workshop! We’ll create pleasing faces, quirky faces, funny faces, collage faces, and sketchy faces. I ll break everything down into step-by-step bites that are easy to digest. This is not a fine art class striving for realism.

2. Stamped & Stenciled Journal w/ Pockets

  • In this class I will show you how to make your own gorgeous “papers with personality” using stamps and stencils. I will also share how to make your own totally fabulous handmade tape. We will use that tape to bind a hand-bound-no-sew-pocket-filled journal! That’s right! You can make this gorgeous book with absolutely no sewing! There are six front facing pockets that hold long cards for journaling and one side facing memorabilia pocket in the front cover. And this book even opens up to allow for a row of photos or memorabilia to be pasted onto the backs of the pocket pages.

3. Altered Book

  • Make an all day art date!  We will spend the day exploring how to transform an ordinary old book into a fabulous piece of art.  Come and learn techniques for layering, collaging, painting, patterning, and cutting.  Whether you’re a mixed media artist, a scrapbooker, a stamper, a beginner, or an expert, these are techniques that you will take home and use.

If you haven’t seen Julie’s work jump right over to her blog…and be sure to follow her…she provides DAILY inspiration!!  She is a superstar blogger and artist I look up to.  Thinking of devoting one Tuesday night a month to “Inspired by…Julie Fei-Fan Balzer”  Interested??

Ok, comment away..and one of the comments regarding favorite stencils will win one!!  Drawing will be done when the stencils arrive in the shop and I’ll post the winner here!

Totally inspired

I am loving the process of our Project 52.  Julie and I each make at least one background per week and post them on her blog for sale.  Check out this week’s pages

Last week’s pages are here…

I intend to do more with the pages we’ve created…and I expect you to hold me accountable to that!

Generally speaking (for the past 3 months) I’ve created a calendar page for the first offering of the month.  Check out what Julie did with my January calendar pages…

I’m also totally inspired by what Julie Fei-Fan Balzer is doing with her “Project Life

Maybe I will be up for a project like that next year…
