It has been a while since I’ve simply posted art for the sake of posting.
Pinterest pinged me this morning saying that my Art Journaling Board followers haven’t seen anything new from me lately 😉 Thanks pinterest…yet another thing to add to my ever growing to-do list.
I do love to feature words on my art journal pages. More so than imagery…
I love to create a big “mess” then mask out words by laying chipboard letters over top and spraying..This will “calm” the background down a bit.
Most of these pages are ready for some finishing touches..maybe a little more journaling or doodles in black/white
The pages above are the demo pages for my Art Journaling 101 class.
And the latest book club selection “Intuitive Painting Workshop” by Alena Hennessy has been a stretch for me..definitely trying new things and learning in this one. Painting “intuitively” is still really hard for me. My number one take away from the first two lessons is to keep moving and doing…don’t sit and think about it too long…just keep going!
Here is last night’s painting
I can’t believe we start a new year at the end of this week! I’ve been a busy bee finishing up last year’s “Artful Life Calendar Journal” and prepping the pages for 2016. If you have no idea what I’m talking about, here is the idea in a nutshell.
I want to live an artful (art filled) life. I want to be able to reflect on milestones, events, thoughts, goals and “stuff” weekly/monthly/yearly. To achieve this goal, I’ve designed a monthly booklet that has a 2-page spread for each week. My goal is to fill in a little something about that week in my life. I include photos, business cards, bits and pieces of my life that can be taped or glued into place as a reminder of where I’ve been and what I’ve been doing. There is room to draw, doodle, sketch, write, document and more.
Each monthly pamphlet is easily portable to carry with you and document on the go. At the end of the year I bind all the monthly pamphlets together into one chunky year end book. 2016 is my 3rd year of doing this and I’m so excited to get started and make this the best year yet.
Does this intrigue you? If so, you have a chance to prep your very own Artful Life Calendar Journal this weekend (Saturday Night/Sunday Afternoon) Click to register.
Can’t make it? I have an on-line version that offers you step by step instructions and a materials list and even links up to some videos showing the process. Click here to purchase. Note..those who attend in person get access to the on-line version too.
Whether you create my version or follow along with any of the MANY on-line weekly “documented life” or “documented faith” challenges you might be interested in our monthly meetup to keep motivated and accountable.
Amidst the business of the holidays I wanted to pop in and remind you…
Today is your last day to save big on Truth Scrap 2016. What is Truth Scrap you ask? It is an online, live virtual art and crafting event focused on celebrating the intersection of faith and art.
Here is a quick flip-through of the journal I am teaching you to make from scratch…
This event will feature 6 individual classes. Here is the description for mine:

I love to periodically challenge myself to creating and posting daily for a 31 day period. Yesterday I spent some time pondering if August would be a “challenge” month for me. This morning (it’s never too late) I decided to take 31 days to focus on Restoration. My recent time away at a church camp meeting was a time for reflection. One life issue kept poking up and refused to be quieted and set on the shelf as I normally do. Funny how God answers those whispered half-prayers through any avenue possible.
In the bathroom (of all places) at this spiritual retreat special verses and such were taped to the inside of the stalls. I (creature of habit) would generally use the same stall and the same verse was there nearly all week…until Thursday that is….and then this showed up. I have been struggling with one relationship that seems to be in turmoil more often than not and POW! This card shows up.
So, after the 10 day retreat is over and I’m home and back into my regular routine it seems like a perfect time to start a 31 day period focusing on restoration.
Each day I will take a verse or thought on this topic and create an art journal page or hand letter a margin in my journaling bible.
What about you? Won’t you join me in the month of August 31 days of focus is transformative. I’d love to hear about your journey.
I’m going to take today’s count down prompt to not only highlight inspiring art journal pages but 3 of my favorite artist’s art journal pages.
1. Stephanie Ackerman – She is not only a lovely spirit filled woman but a talented artist and someone I am honored to call friend.
by Stephanie Ackerman of homegrownhospitality.typepad.com
2. Tracie Bautista – I’ve been inspired by her style since I became aware of art journaling 8 years ago. She is a local (Northern California) girl. She was my first art journaling teacher. She has played a huge role in my style being what it is today.
3. Donna Downey – An artist I greatly admire for her artistic ability as well as business sense.
What about you…who inspires you? Care to share some of their art journal pages? Tag them in a post with #countdownjsr
