1000 houses still in progress

1000 houses still in progress

I”m adding layers but here is an update on a few of the pieces I posted last week.  It is kind of fun seeing the progression.  Normally I would call these done..but who knows…I may be inspired to do more layers.

1000 Houses update

1000 Houses update

It has been quite some time since I’ve updated you on the progress of my 1000 Houses Project.  If you are unaware of this project it is my quest to “find my style” or flavor.  The only constraints I’ve placed on myself is they must be individual pieces of art (not art journal pages) and have a house shape in them somewhere.

Many times as you will see here the pieces come out of some class or bookclub I’ve taught or facilitated.  The first piece as you see above is not quite complete yet as it was done in Wednesday’s session of “Juicy Collage”

This next piece came out of the book club “Art at the Speed of Life” by Pam Carriker.  It was my take on the “Toilette Papier Mache”

The following piece I hesitated to even show.  There are some things I will change on it…but I guess it is good to document the process as well.  Another piece I created in a session of “Juicy Collage”

This piece I created in a class called “Plaster Form Collage” inspired by a piece in “Taking Flight” by Kelly Rae Roberts.

Another two pieces  from “Juicy Collage”  This features my love of the dripping acrylic ink and a spritz of water….ohh I LOVE that magic!

This piece was inspired by the  ”Art at the Speed of Life”  by Pam Carriker.  I love the bookclub format for how it gets me out of my normal mode and encourages me to stretch and try new things.

None of these are in any order of when they were created..this one is a little “darker” than usual for me..but I love it just the same.

People often ask how I am doing on this project.  I am plugging along…I just don’t make as much time to document it as I could.  I’m striving to get into a rhythm in my effort to bring more balance into life..perhaps that will include more regular updates.

Hope you enjoy what you’ve seen.

A Work of Heart
2196 Lincoln Ave
San Jose, CA 95125-3542
(408) 266-1005
10-5

Yes…I do know the way to San Jose.  After such a wonderful time at Collage Camp here in May, I couldn’t wait to get back to this great place and see my new friends again…this time for a book class!

In this full day workshop we will create a multi-page mixed media book pretty much from scratch. Yes! in one day!
Using coffee-stained canvas, new and vintage fabrics, papers and textured
collages you will make a book to hold in your hands and tell a story from your heart.

With images of family, a beloved pet, your favorite
flowers…whatever….let me show you how I make the books that
I love. Here’s a cover of one of my favorites…..

And then letting the images speak to us….we will learn to
listen.
From this will come our journaling, letters or quotes.

Workshop fee….$180 due when you reserve your spot.

$60 materials fee due at class (Wait until you see all the
fabrics and papers needed to make this book!) They come coffee-stained
for you and ready to go.

Art Melange – a Travel Journal Extravaganza

Art Melange – a Travel Journal Extravaganza

Make one for yourself in the series coming on Thursday nights in June:

Art Melange – a Travel Journal Extravaganza
Thursdays June 2- June 30 PLUS a bonus Craft Rave on Saturday June 11, 6pm-11pm ($140 until May 31…then the price goes up to $165)

15 hours of studio time and instruction.  All supplies included.  Minimal/No sewing experience required.

This is a great project for using up all your scrap papers and hand painted papers from previous classes if you want to use them.

This workshop will feature techniques inspired by Teesha Moore, Traci Bautista and Mary Ann Moss.  I am a huge fan of these extraordinary artists and have woven techniques each of them use in their journals into this one workshop.  We will mix and match to create a one-of-a-kind journal ready to accompany you anywhere you go.  The zippered pencil pouch/flap is a bonus so you have your favorite writing tools/glue/paint brush at the ready.

Transformation Deck tonight…

Transformation Deck tonight…

We’ve had a great time making our own Transformation Deck, inspired from the book by Sheri Gaynor..Creative Awakenings.

Each week we have completed 4 backgrounds using 4 different techniques.  Each of our 24 cards will be the base for our very own Transformation Deck.  Once the cards are completed (image and text layered on) they will serve as creative jump-starts for visual journaling using Sheri’s six guiding principles: EnVision It, Create It, Believe It, Write It, Live It and Re-EnVision It.

We have space available in tonight’s session.  For 90 minutes you will enjoy the company of other creative women AND learn 4 techniques for adding texture and design to your backgrounds.

We also have a 3 hour workshop planned for NEXT Tuesday night.  Come and work on backgrounds (we have a handout/instructions for all 24 techniques) AND collage the surface of your cards.

We plan on having another 6 week series starting up again in September.  Email me if you are interested (andrea@aworkofheart.com).  We’ll be working our way through Sheri’s awesome book

Have a great day!
