Did you know we have a thermofax machine?  Nearly any black and white image can be turned into a screen for screen printing!

Did you know you can have a birthday party (or any occasion party or team building event) here?  Check out Lori’s party guests and the lovely Mixed Media Mirrors they created.

Did you know that “Book Club” is all about DOING projects from our selected book?  Currently we are working through Ruth Rae’s book “Layered, Tattered & Stitched”.  Thursday June 7th will be the final project from this book. All projects are stand alone. This means you can come to any session without having attended prior sessions.

During June, July & August we will be exploring projects from the book Mixed-Media Paint Box.  It is a delightful conglomeration of projects from Michael deMeng, Kelly Rae Roberts, Claudine Hellmuth, Ruth Rae & many more!  Sessions will meet on Tuesday nights (but not every Tuesday night…look for the title “Book Club” to find the sessions)  We have some copies of this book in the shop too!

Inspired from the pages of Ruth Rae’s book, Layered, Tattered & Stitched, here is the book club project this week.

This example is still in progress but you get the idea.  The finished size is about 9×12 which is larger than I expected but it is going to be fun to work in.  It is filled with 40 pages of watercolor paper.

I have a feeling it will re-appear as a stand alone class again.

Here it is on the calendar tomorrow.

“How does book club work” is one of the most common questions I get (along with “where do you park around here?”)

Book Club works like this…we pick a book (the next one coming up is “Layered Tattered & Stitched” by Ruth Rae)

Each week we present a new project from the book and work through the project together.  I will have already worked out the kinks beforehand so that I can share my experience with following the instructions in the book.  You relax and enjoy an evening (or morning…we have daytime sessions too!) of creating something cool.  All supplies are included and you don’t even have to own the book to participate.  Just register for the session(s) you want to attend and show up.

Here is next week’s project featuring Resin-Paper!

Click on the image above and register for your seat in class!

You get to customize this project based on what image you choose.  You can turn it into a card or concertina book like I have shown here.

Flavor for Mixed Media

Flavor for Mixed Media

Mary Beth Shaw put out this totally inspiring book called “Flavor for Mixed Media” a feast of techniques for texture, color and layers.

We’ve enjoyed it as a book club selection in January and February..So much so I’m open to offering it daytime for anyone who is interested.

Here are a few of the projects the girls from Thursday nights have done.

And this is just a representation of 3 of the 5 projects we did in the book.

Email andrea@aworkofheart.com  if you are interested in attending a 5 session series covering projects in this book during the daytime.

I’m over-the-moon excited to be signing up for a workshop with Mary Beth at “Art is… You” in Petaluma this September.

I’ve finally gotten my class sample done to a point that I can take pictures to give you an idea of what you’ll be doing in book club tomorrow night.  It is a really fun project you probably don’t want to miss…

Click here to register for this session that meets from 6:30-9pm and costs only $35

In this workshop we are working from Sue Pelletier‘s article in the July/August issue of Cloth Paper Scissors we will create a plaster collage incorporating ephemera and other bits and baubles.

Learn the basics of preparing a background for collage with plaster. Add color and texture and your collage will take on a spontaneous charm. Come to class with a shape in mind (bird, heart, tree, crown, etc…) and we’ll take it from there.
